Periodic Brewing, Leadville CO
Leadville CO – Periodic Brewing
Periodic Brewing, at 10,156′ above sea level, claims to be the highest-altitude craft brewpub in the world, and it’s what brought me to this little town! It’s not much to look at from the outside, but neither is the rest of Leadville. Actually, it’s somewhat nicer than most of the town unless you go around back 🙂 I didn’t take a picture of their outside seating area for fear of embarrassing them …

They only had 7 drafts available (a large group of bikers had emptied the IPA recently, but that was fine with me!) and I tried 4 in a flight plus 1 more as a pint. Here’s their draft list, with apologies for the reflections:

And here is my flight:

From left to right, they are:
There Gose the Day – this was brewed for the Annual Pink Boots Society festival. I enjoyed it, although it wasn’t nearly as good as others of this style I’ve had.
Sugarloaf Amber Ale – a decent red ale.
TrALE Warrior Pale Ale – this one really surprised me! I don’t often find an American Pale Ale that I would drink again, but I wouldn’t hesitate to order this one again.
Chocolate Porter – now this one is what really puts them on the map, in my opinion. I’d call this a contender for sure, and would put it up against Young’s Double Chocolate Stout any day!
I ended with a pint of their Bleidorf Kolsch and it was good, but not in the top ranks.
As for food … I ordered the Bison Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and fries. The waffle fries were definitely the best part of that meal – the wurst was dry and there was very little sauerkraut with it.
Would I go back on a future trip? No, but I’m not sorry I went this time. It was just something I couldn’t avoid once I’d discovered them.
