Leadville CO – Silver Dollar Saloon

Or, to be more accurate, The Legendary Silver Dollar Saloon! This is quite the piece of local history, being the only saloon that survived from mining days when the town was relatively large (45,000 people vs. 3,000 today) and there were upwards of 60 saloons in the downtown area.

The Silver Dollar is fascinating on the inside and I’m just sorry I didn’t get a photo of the outside, but just google them and you can see the entrance for yourself. Here is the original bar (imported) and the front (bar) room:

It was sheer luck that I arrived at 3:55 pm because their kitchen closes at 4pm each day. They use all fresh ingredients, so only do food between 11am and 4pm as that is about how long everything lasts. However, they don’t serve draft beers – they have cans and bottles, but they are almost all interesting brews from Colorado breweries:

I opted for the Tommy Knocker Blonde (excellent!) and the Funkwerks Raspberry Sour (also excellent!). It’s certainly an unusual place, and the food was definitely good. If only they had drafts, I’d call this somewhere to return to. As it was, I left fully satisfied and having enjoyed excellent food and beer.
