Springfield MI – Territorial Brewing Company

Springfield is practically a part of Battle Creek, so that’s how I always think of this place. This was my third visit to Territorial because they focus on German-style beers and German food, and I’ve been craving some good German cuisine this entire trip.

The beer list is a little hard to read, but this is the only place they have it all in one piece:

My flight was quite wonderful, and is in order as listed on the paper, left-to-right. Of the four, they were all honestly my favorites! I suppose the Gose was perhaps the least favorite today, and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Amber. But it was the Kölsch that I went to for a follow-up pint.

My meal was the “Best of the Wurst,” a chef’s choice platter of 3 of their 6 wurst types with sauerkraut and German fires. Scrumptious!

I should have stopped there, but no … there was a German Chocolate Cake on the menu and I didn’t feel like I wanted to leave yet (plus, it was raining again!), so I ordered that along with a 13oz pour of the Hard Bock Cafe, a coffee bock:

That cake was so decadent! The center of it is a hot chocolate pudding, and with the fresh and toasted coconut on top along with nuts, it was very rich, extremely filling, and absolutely delightful. The coffee bock was a perfect accompaniment and I wished I’d ordered a full pint.

If I hadn’t had the cake and the extra beer, I’d have been sorely tempted to stop at a place called the Old Mill Brew Pub on the way back north, but I didn’t. Tomorrow, I think I’ll be checking out Guardian Brewing in Saugatuck.
