Oakland CA – Miscellaneous

No photos, alas, but descriptions of four beers I’ve had here so far.

#1 was a East Bay IPA by Ale Industries, a local brewery. This one really surprised me because it was so well balanced and tasty, without a hint of over-hopped bitterness. I’ll be able to enjoy more of this one as Haley & Frank have stocked up on cans of it.

#2 was a LOVE Hazy IPA from Almanac Beer Company, enjoyed at the Lake Chalet restaurant pictured in the other blog. This was good also, but just a touch less enjoyable for my taste than the East Bay IPA. There were a couple of other beers on the tap list that I’d wanted, but most of the 8 taps were down so I just had this one plus a Margarita (also very tasty).

Numbers 3 and 4 were enjoyed at the Brotzeit Lokal German restaurant overlooking a small marina. (The food was excellent there also!) The first was the Früh Kölsch from the Cölner Hofbräu and it was very tasty example of that style, but not perhaps the best I’ve ever had. The second was truly wonderful, a Spezial Hell Festbier from Klosterbrauerei Andechs. We’re headed back to Brotzeit on Tuesday and I will definitely have more of this great beer! [Edit: things happened and we never returned … next trip, perhaps!]
