Mountain Tap Brewery, Steamboat Springs CO

The actual post will appear tomorrow. Today’s hotel wifi sucks and cell service isn’t much better here.

“Tomorrow” is here 🙂

Once I arrived in Steamboat Springs, I headed for this brewery which is right in the heart of a heavy touristy downtown area. It was 95º and full sun and Mountain Tap doesn’t have an air-conditioned space – instead, they have huge doors that connect the indoor space to the large outdoor space.

I was delighted to hear that they’ll do any number of beers in a flight, and there were exactly six I wanted to try. All of them were top-notch and it was difficult to choose one for my follow-up pint (but I did).

This list goes left-to-right in the near row and then right-to-left in the far row, and because I loved them all, I’ll just provide the descriptions and let you imagine the taste:

Summer Heat Ginger Wheat – brewed with fresh ginger root, wheat, oats, and barley, then conditioned on more fresh ginger, lemongrass and limes. 4.3%

Passionate Pedal – Tropical passionfruit lends a bright, tart, and citrusy twist to this quenching and delicious unfiltered wheat beer. 5.0%

Chasing Sunset – Our golden ale is crisp, light, and quenching, with just a kiss of Cascade and Horizon dry hopped goodness. 5.3%

Get Out! – Our Belgian saison was brewed to celebrate Colorado’s public lands. Made with Colorado-grown barley and wheat, it’s earthy, spicy, tangy, and quenching. 5.4%

7-7 Anniversary Haze – Brewed with 7 hops and 7 grains to celebrate our 5th anniversary on 7/7, this hazy IPA boasts bright citrus hop aroma. 7% (35 IBU)

Mountain Macaroon – This malty, nutty, brown ale is aged on lightly toasted coconut and has flavors of chocolate malt and coconut. 5.5% (I don’t usually like coconut flavors in a beer, but this one really worked for me!)

The pint was – after great deliberation – the 7-7, and I had a fabulous pizza straight from their 700º oven with an extra-thin and perfectly crispy crust.

There is no question that this place made up for the sorry beers at Edgewater the day before!
