Badger Hill Brewing, Shakopee MN

I’m having dinner at a friend’s place in Minneapolis tonight, so I opted for a light lunch and a quick stop at a brewery for a flight. Badger Hill was an excellent choice of stop! The outside is quite unassuming, stuck as it is in the back part of a building in an industrial park, but it’s much more interesting indoors. I wish I’d taken a good photo inside because their brewing setup is pretty amazing.

I selected a flight of four, and enjoyed them all:

From left to right:

Traitor IPA, 7%. This is their “put us on the map” beer and is really well-balanced, not particularly bitter at all. (I also learned from the bartender that higher alcohol content in IPAs adds sweetness, counteracting the bitterness of the hops, which is why Triple IPAs are so amazing.)

Starship Mechanic Hazy IPA. There wasn’t an ABV for this one, but it was probably around 5.5%. This was also tasty, but I was surprised that I actually preferred the Traitor over it.

Badger Snack Peanut Butter Stout, 6.3%. Wow, this one was rich and full, all chocolate and peanut butter flavors, one of the best of this type I’ve had. I think my previous favorite was from Willoughby Brewing in Ohio, but this one takes the prize!

Tafelbier Belgian Table Beer. This one was a collaboration with Wooden Ship Brewing and also had no ABV, but it wasn’t high at all. I could see this being an all-day beer on a hot day, no problem at all!

With this one in the bag, I’m at 19 different venues and 89 beers tasted on this trip so far with lots more to go 🙂 Tomorrow, Marquette MI!
