Marto Brewing, Sioux City IA

Another hotel with sucky wifi. Updates tomorrow.

And here we go! Marto Brewing was an easy choice as it’s the only brewery in Sioux City that has food as well, and it was worth the visit.

They make good beer and a killer pizza crust; here are two shots of the flight I had with a good view of the pizza oven in the second.

From left to right, the flight was:

4 Lokals NEIPA, 5.9%. All four local breweries got together at Marto to create this one, a hazy IPA featuring Citra, Mosaic, Trident, and Cashmere hops. It was pretty tasty.

Chanter Scottish Export Ale, 6%. Oh, this was a good beer, so smooth and tasty! (Spoiler: I followed with a pint of this one because although I enjoyed everything, I really had to have more of this one.)

Iowa Sunrise Vienna Lager, 5.2%. Sometimes I like Vienna Lagers and sometimes I don’t; this one fell somewhere in between, good enough to drink more of, but not so special that I would choose it over the others.

Memoirs of a Tiki Bar Sour, 6%. I like sours, and this was a good one, but does a beer really need that much fruitiness in it? Regardless, it lived up to its name and was fun to try.

Dinner was one of their pizzas. I loved the thin, extra crispy crust, but found the toppings somewhat flavorless. Puzzling, given how good it looks!

At this point, I ordered a taster size of their Plush English Porter, 6.7%, to see if that might be the one to order in a pint. It was very good and matched the description (rich chocolate, coffee, caramel, and toasty) but a bit stronger of a taste than I was after.

I was tempted to get a 10oz pour each of the Plush and the Chanter, but decided to just do a full pint of the Chanter because English Porters of this quality are available lots of places, but a good Scottish Export is harder to find.

(Even though Marto was air-conditioned, you can get an idea of how hot and humid it was outside from the condensation on these glasses!)
