Lake Superior Smokehouse Brewpub, Marquette MI

If I hadn’t been confident about the place from online research before arriving, it’s not the kind of place I would have parked at, much less entered. The stop was certainly worth it, though!

They brew a handful of their own beers but have several others on tap. I did a flight of four of their own, because why visit, otherwise, right?

From left to right, the flight is:

LSSP Golden Blonde Ale – This was quite tasty and was my favorite until I tasted the others …

LSSP Hoppy Days – It was quite good, honestly, but not enough so to make the cut for a pint. I think I would have liked it more with a spicy food.

Altitude Altbier – When I ordered this one in the flight, the waitress said, “Great choice!” so I had high hopes for it, and it didn’t disappoint. Black lager? Black IPA? I’m not sure quite how to characterize it, but it certainly was tasty!

Pampered Moose – This was good, but I put it as my fourth choice of the four, probably because it just wasn’t quite the flavor I was looking for today.

There were two items on the menu I was deciding between – a burger and a BBQ Brisket sandwich – and I asked the waitress how their brisket was. Her reply was more non-verbal than verbal, almost a visual expression of ecstasy, so I gave it a try. The BBQ sauce was unique and quite good even if not what I was expecting, and the brisket was cut thick and sufficiently tender. Overall, this was the second-best BBQ brisket sandwich I’ve ever had. Sometime this weekend, I hope to revisit Guardian Brewing and have the best-ever BBQ brisket once again 🙂

And for today’s pint? It practically no contest in the end – the Altbier won out.

The more I drank, the more I loved it 🙂
