Grove City Brewing, Grove City OH

Summer 2022 Trip, Day 3

This is the first of a couple of entries for today. I had Second Meal™️ planned out (see the later entry) but wanted to go visit somewhere I hadn’t been before, so I headed to Grove City Brewing.

Grove City has a typical taproom with an outdoor space (not pictured).

Behind this space is Plum Run Winery, their “sister” operation, I suppose. Grove City has a goodly number of taps with only 3 guest taps, and I was told that they have 27 Plum Run wines available (!). It was also great to hear that most of the liquors they serve are locally-sourced (giving me a good lead on a distillery to visit the next time I’m in this area!).

I started off with a standard flight of 4:

From left to right:

#1 – Grove City Beulah (Blonde Ale, 4.3%) – It was good. Not great, but good.

#5 – Grove City From the Heart (APA, 5.4%) – This surprised me as both the most flavorful and hoppiest of the four. It was good, but struck me as much more like an NEIPA than not.

#16 – Grove City Pale Lager (4.3%) – Of these four, this was my clear favorite, very clean and crisp and truly hitting the spot at this particular moment.

#17 – Grove City Experimental IPA (5.2%) – Experiments don’t always pan out, do they? This one was actually a mistake as I’d meant to order #18, the Wiggy White IPA which the bartender told me was more popular, but oh well!

I did really like that they provided a small packet of oyster crackers with the flight! Those were just perfect to help cleanse the palette between tastings 🙂

I followed that grouping with two more 5 oz. pours:

On the right is #4 Grove City Columbus Street (DIPA, 9%) and it was a very solid example of the style with the right amount of sweetness, not an overwhelming hoppy flavor, and no overbearing alcoholic taste. But the one on the left, #6 Grove City Bearded Aviator (Irish Red Ale, 6%), stole my heart for this visit. The bartender said this was also her favorite of all their beers and it’s clear why that is. If I hadn’t already had plans for later, I would have happily taken a crowler (32 oz can) of this with me!

Will I return in the future? Maybe. I’m certainly interested in what their food offerings are like given their focus on local producers. I’m not a huge fan of their beers, but some are definitely worth revisiting.

In the next post, I’ll share the continuation of today 🙂
