Burgys Brew, Williamstown MA

Burgy’s Brews, Williamstown MA

I’ve been meaning to stop in here for a while but it’s not exactly in the neighborhood. Getting my car back from the body shop gave me a good excuse to go for a drive, and this was vaguely in the direction I wanted to go anyway.

I arrived well before anything resembling a crowd showed up and opted for a high-top in the bar area – or rather, one of the bar areas as I later learned. Burgy’s has a large and new space here with a lot of indoor seating that isn’t even visible in this photo as well as a lot of outdoor seating.

They have several of their own beers on draft as well as several guest beers, and I decided to start with their own Sesh, a session IPA that is a mild 4.2%. Everything about this screamed “Session Beer” and it would certainly be a good one to drink all day. That led to food, and I let myself be tempted by the Reuben:

I’m told that all their food is made in-house and it certainly shows in the quality. That ketchup in the background is their “Smoky Ketchup” and it’s my new favorite with just the right amount of spicy, interesting flavor but not so much as to overwhelm the food. The Reuben had just a bit of spice to it as well, unusual but not at all unwelcome, and the bread was as perfectly toasted as the beef was tender.

Round two was their Flood NEIPA, a tasty but not hugely flavorful beer.

By this point, I was full and needed to get back home to my list of Saturday chores. Much as I would have liked to try more of their brews, it just wasn’t going to happen on this visit. (As a side note, I’d asked if they did flights, but the glassware for those was “tied up somewhere in California …”

I did ask if they had the Sesh available in cans, but the answer was “not yet.” This is one I’d like to try and clone at home, and more samples of it would have been helpful. I would hope they decide to offer crowlers at some point in addition to cans so that everything on tap could be taken away – that’s a great feature that so many brewpubs I’ve visited on trips the last two summers offer.

This is definitely somewhere I’d like to visit again both for the food and the beer. It’s just a shame that it’s so inconveniently located for me!
