Salty Pecker Brewing, Norton Shores MI
8 July 2023

Let me just start with this photo right off in case you’re thinking of something else …
I made a detour in today’s drive to stop in here just for a flight as they didn’t really have food, and I’d decided that my “main stop” would be elsewhere. If I’d known then what I know now, I would have spent the afternoon here!

Although it doesn’t look like much from the outside, the Salty Pecker is quite cozy on the inside and they have an inviting list of brews to drink. The four I chose for my flight were, left to right:

The Miner’s Daughter (Copper Lager, 4.2%) – This is a lager that you could drink all day and wonder where the time had gone. It had nothing in particular to recommend it, but at the same time, everything going for it.
Rundle Ripple (Butterscotch Porter, 6.2%) – I tried this one just because it was so unique, but I really liked it! It tastes like a liquid Butterfinger Bar but without the excess sweetness. Often, I think that I really like a beer but that I could never do a pint of it because it’s just too over-the-top – this, I could happily do a pint of.
Shipwreck Harbor (Session IPA, 4.1%) – Smooth. Soothing. Just the right amount of flavor. Low ABV. This particular beer really defines a session beer and it would probably be my go-to beer if I lived nearby.
Mango Mustache (Juicy IPA, 6.5%) – Did I like this one? Definitely. Was the mango overpowering? No, but it was close. Would I drink a pint? Maybe, depending on how I felt, but probably not. Still, I enjoyed every drop of the 4 ounce taster.
So in conclusion, the place was congenial, the bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, and the beers were top notch. What’s not to love? This will certainly go on my list of places to return to if I get the chance.
