Ernest Brew Works, Toledo OH
9 July 2023
I’d decided to stop at one of the Ernest Brew Works locations that was both open on a Sunday afternoon and had a food truck scheduled. At least they were open …

It’s an unassuming little location but congenial inside. They do flights of any number up to 6 so I, naturally, went for the full 6:

#1 – Hibiscus Summer Wheat (5.7%) – This was a truly pleasant beer, with just a hint of hibiscus, lemon, and coriander.
#2 – PWK (Phone – Keys – Wallet) (Hazy IPA, 7.5%) – I loved the name and I loved the beer! This one is brewed with a mix of Citra, Cryo Pop, and Ahhhroma hops. It was almost my favorite of the flight …
#8 – Earnest Bock (Dark Lager, 5.8%) – In their words, “This beer was brewed with Summer in mind. The body was toned down, the color lightened, and we layered it in order to invoke smoothness.” I loved this one – it was runaway winner for my favorite of the six.
#17 – Oktoberfest (5.9%) – I’d fully expected to like this one the best. It was certainly good, though.
#4 – Mango Habanero New Sincerity (West Coast IPA, 6.9%) – I really must learn to pay more attention to the names of things! I did enjoy this one, but the habaneros (how did I miss that?!?) do add heat on the back end, a bit more than I care for.
#7 – Between the Limes (Sour IPA, 7.2%) – If I’d been in the mood for a good sour beer today, this would have been the one! It had the whole lime flavor, just the right level of sour, and a base of a well-balanced IPA.
According to the website, there was supposed to be a food truck. There wasn’t. So the flight was it and I headed off to Maumee Bay Brewing where I’ve been a couple of times in past years. That’s too bad, because I did enjoy the beers and would have liked to have had more, but not on an empty stomach.
