Antimony Brewery & Kitchen, Lenox MA

7 November 2023

This was my second visit to Antimony and to be honest, it was both better and worse than the first visit. The beers were just as good, the food was somewhat less good, but I discovered a fabulous cocktail.

I started off with this flight:

Coastal Fusion – American IPA, 7% – They bill this as primarily a West Coast IPA and it is quite good, but perhaps a tiny bit more hoppy than I prefer on a normal day. With different food, I think this could be a real winner.

Coldhead – Oatmeal Stout, 6.1% – I do love a good oatmeal stout, and theirs is a good one. This was the first beer they produced and the name came about because of an equipment failure that caused a dramatic temperature drop; hence, Coldhead.

Inner Displacement – Hazy IPA, 6.5% – “Experience your own Inner Displacement” is the tag line for this beer that is made with Citra, Strata, and Nectarine hops. It was easily my favorite of the four on this particular visit.

Isomer #2 – Hazy IPA, 6.7% – This is in their experimental series and that’s exactly where it belongs, in my opinion. It was way too hoppy, and included an interesting variety of hops that are not widely used — El Dorado, Cashmere, Huell Melon, and Vista.

I ordered their Reuben with Truffle Fries. The Reuben itself is interesting because of the use of coleslaw instead of sauerkraut, and just as for my first visit, the corned beef was so tender that it almost literally melted in my mouth. Unfortunately, the slaw-to-beef ratio was heavily skewed to the slaw end of the scale, making this sandwich less enjoyable than on the first visit. The truffle fries, likewise, were somewhat disappointing. While they were good fries, they just tasted of salt and nothing much else. Truffle fries are usually much more flavorful.

Fortunately, there was the Inner Displacement to wash down the meal. And because this was my last brewpub of this trip, I indulged myself with one more drink, the best of the day and perhaps the week:

This may not look like much, but it is their Coldhead Espresso Martini, made with their Coldhead Stout, espresso, and vodka. What an amazing creation this was! It was so smooth and tasty that I would have been happily ordered more, but I’ll definitely need to return again now that I know how good this is 🙂
