EBC West, Fredonia NY

8 April 2024

My original plan had been to head to the main Ellicottville Brewing Company pub in Ellicottville NY, but because of lost time getting the car charged, I decided to check out EBC West. The building is quite unassuming from the outside and isn’t even well marked, but it’s fascinating on the inside:

To my surprise, they only had two of their own beers available; most of the taps were from other small breweries in western NY State.

The bartender was saying to someone else that they’ve been cleaning out some of the older beers … so even what was still on the tap list wasn’t all available; numbers 9, 11, and 13 had kicked. I started with the Naturally Red from Big Inlet Brewery in Westfield NY.

It was good, but I wouldn’t necessarily search it out in the future. Next up was the Chicken Tenders (with Garlic Parmesan sauce) and a pint of EBC’s Foggy NEIPA. The Foggy would have been good for two or three rounds if I hadn’t had to drive more. The surprise, to me, was that this NEIPA was not a Hazy IPA; it may be the first of this style I’ve had that was clear.

It’s been several years since I’ve been to the main EBC in Ellicottville. Honestly, I have better memories of that location — they have a much larger menu and the beers are all their own. It’s just unfortunate that they’re so much off the beaten path … not really conducive to dropping in on one of my trips.
