Edison Brewing Company, Gahanna OH

Don’t get confused by the “Gahanna” in the name; this is just east of Columbus! In fact, it has a fantastic view of the Columbus skyline as it’s just east of the airport and up on a hill:

As you can just see in the photo, they’re growing their own small-batch hops here. The location is really idyllic, uphill from the Columbus International Airport, and indeed I got here by driving through the airport.

Sadly, they don’t do flights here, but they do offer 8oz pours so I did two of those followed by another two. The first pair, right-to-left, were:

James – Helles Lager, 5.5% – This was more malty than I expected, but I suppose I shouldn’t have been all that surprised. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t love it.

All Mina – English Pale Ale, 4.8% – Once again, I like it, but I didn’t love it. This one was also a bit more malty than I was expecting, but perhaps I wasn’t expecting what they were serving 😉

The second two half-pints were, left-to-right this time:

AlvAnother – Scottish Ale, 5.7% – You really need to say this one aloud to get the play-on-words. It was a very decent Scottish Ale, but probably not one I’d go out of my way to have again.

Gus – Porter, 6.3% – Of the four beers I had here, I think this was the best.

Edison claims that they really focus on German-style beers, but the one I had just didn’t work for me.. I thought the UK Ales were better, but even then, I didn’t think they were top shelf brews. Even so, I’d come back here just for the location — the views are outstanding in the right weather (which today was).
