Rohrbach Brewing, Rochester NY (but not really)
13 May 2024
Today was a cautionary tale of not trusting Google listings of the open hours for businesses. I had expected to roll up to Rohrbach’s around 2:30pm and enjoy a relaxing meal and beers before heading to my hotel about 15 minutes away. Instead, I arrived to find the door locked because they don’t actually open until 4pm.

So I drove to the hotel, checked in, and looked for other options. I found a MacGregor’s Grill & Tap Room not far away that looked interesting. And so it was … this photo only shows a fraction of the place. The decor was dated, but the people were friendly.

They were so “not busy” that it took a while for someone to find the server and send him over to my table. Once he was back in circulation, though, things were great because he was very nice and just the right level of attentive. MacGregor’s has 120 taps so there was a lot to choose from …. and I know the glare and the photo size make this beer list impossible to read, but it’s really just here to show you how much they have.

I started with a Spaten Märzen (Oktoberfest) and ordered their Uncle Sam Burger (which turned out to be far too much burger for me to finish!).

For the second beer, I decided on the Southern Tier Juice Bomb which I’d had at the brewery last year and enjoyed. It was rather juicier than I’d remembered … a lot to take in, but I made it through. And finally, because it was still early, I had a short pour of the Rohrback Scotch Ale (very good!) and the Brownie Sundae (also very good, but it looked and felt like a pound of brownie with a mountain of ice cream and whipped cream on top. Oof, too much.
Today’s misstep had me double- and triple-checking tomorrow’s planned brewpub stop and sure enough, Google lied about its hours as well. Instead, I’ll be a different Druthers Brewing location and no doubt enjoying it.
