Bog Iron Brewing, Norton MA
7 September 2024
Bog Iron Brewing is one of those places I wish were very close by my house so I could visit there often. As it is, it’s an hour and a half away on a good day, but it was well worth the visit.
They have a decent indoor space:

And there’s also plenty of space outdoors including some comfy chairs and couches; we grabbed the one table that was in the shade since we ordered flights and wanted somewhere to set them down.

Their selection isn’t huge but it’s varied, and everything we had was just marvelous.

Here are my impressions from my flight, left to right:
Same Same – Helles Lager, 5.3% – This was one of my favorite Helles Lagers that I can remember having, very flavorful without being overpowering. It would be a good beer to relax with just about any time of the year.
Burly Blonde – Blonde Ale, 7.5% – The high ABV wasn’t apparent but it ended up being my least favorite of the four just because it was heavier than I like a Blonde Ale to be.
Georgia – Sour White Peach Berliner Weisse, 5.4% – This one surprised me, honestly. At first, it was far more sour than I was expecting and I wasn’t sure I was up for finishing even the flight glass. Once I got past the initial surprise, the peach flavor won me over (even though I’m not usually a fan of fruity beers) and it ended up tied with the next beer for my favorite of the flight! Give me a cold pint of this, a hot summer afternoon, and a comfortable chair on a shady deck, and I’d be very happy.
Middle Child – Imperial IPA, 9.5% – Now this has some alcohol in it and isn’t afraid to have you know it! But it’s also smooth and tasty, a real treat of an Imperial IPA.
We didn’t take advantage of this, but Bog Iron is actually open at 9:30am on both Saturday and Sunday with a brunch menu available until 12:30pm. Perhaps we’ll check that out in the coming months … and in the meantime, I look forward to another visit to see if their kitchen produces food as good the beer.
For now, check the next entry for our second visit of the day and lunch, Start Line Brewing.
