Cedar Springs Brewing Company, Cedar Springs MI
22 September 2025
I’ve been to Cedar Springs once before at the recommendation of a server at another Grand Rapids brewery and decided it deserved a return visit today. I was not sorry! As you can see, they have both an outdoor (but fully roofed) beer garden as well as an indoor space with family-style seating. Food and drink is ordered at the bar under the tanks.

Cedar Springs was the first craft brewery in Michigan to focus on German-style beers, and they proudly honor the legacy of the first German brewery in Michigan that was opened by an immigrant. Because it is Oktoberfest season, I opted for their Salzburger Märzen, a Märzen style beer at 5.7%. It is the best of this style I’ve enjoyed on this trip so my second pint was another of the same.

Cedar Springs serves traditional pub fare, but they also have honest, homestyle German food. This is their Schnitzel von Wiener Art, a breaded pork schnitzel served on a bed of seasoned home fries and accompanied by a lingonberry sauce. This is a lot more food than it may appear — that schnitzel is a good half-inch thick, but so tender and tasty.
Knowing that I still had a lot of the day ahead of me, I ordered two appetizers to go. The first was a cup of a Creamy Garlic soup and this was just super, unlike anything I’ve had before. I love garlic and this topped me up for a while! The other is freshly baked rustic bread with herbed butter, and this was also incredible.

I’m definitely keeping Cedar Springs on my “must visit again” list of brewpubs, an ever-growing list, I’m afraid!
