Old Dog Alehouse & Brewery, Delaware OH

8 October 2026

I’d visited Old Dog once a few years ago and remembered that it was pretty good, but based on this visit, I’ll definitely return if I’m back in this area. Unfortunately, I didn’t get photos of the place itself, but here’s my flight, described clockwise from the bottom left:

Zuerst – Märzen, 5.8% – Some years, I hardly like any of the Oktoberfests I try on my trip. This year, they’ve all been more than enjoyable and this is one of the best.

Space Boots! – Pale Ale, 5.2% – While this was a bit more bitter than I’d expected, what surprised me the most about it was that it was less flavorful than the next beer in line! Space Boots! was good but I wouldn’t choose it just for a pint.

Boatyard Blonde – Blonde Ale, 5.1% – This beer had all the flavor I’d been expecting in the Space Boots! I’d love a pint of this, but if it were accompanying food, I’d probably go with the Space Boots! instead.

Watson – English Porter, 7.2% – And a lovely English porter this is, too. It’s just about perfect in every way.

The Gadget – Sour, 8% – Due to a mixup in the printed tap list (I had an outdated copy), #11 was not Old Dog’s cold IPA but this delightful sour from Urban Artifact Brewing. In fact, this was so tasty that I decided I was actually happy for the confusion!

Old Dog’s kitchen is superb — I chose the Potato Soup and a BLT from the “pick two” lunch menu. This soup was the proverbial “to die for” soup, absolutely heavenly. The sandwich was also outstanding with fresh ingredients and perfectly balanced flavors, and the chips it came with were delicately flavored with rosemary. Wow!

Old Dog has a wall area devoted to clever sayings, some of which I’ve seen before and some of which were new to me. Here they are for your enjoyment:
